Introduction
In Aspen, Virginia, a small-town outside Brookneal, Va in western Charlotte County, downtown consists of a community center. That’s it. The community center appears to have been the local market and post office. Metro Aspen, consists of the community center, and about 6 homes. In the greater Aspen area, there are probably another 8 houses, plus or minus. There is almost zero cell coverage in downtown. Railroad tracks run through the middle of town.
All this may sound like I am being negative, but I really consider these as positive aspects, except for the railroad tracks. Highway 40 is only 2 miles away, and Brookneal is about 15 minutes to the west. I love places like this, where it seems that everything just slows down, and life is better. Sometime when you are heading down a highway, and you see a sing that calls out a town you have never heard of, just take the turn, and you may be surprised by what you find. Try and get your GPS lost, you won’t regret it.
